Visitors never forget their first breath-taking vision of Leeds Castle in Kent, rising majestically from the moat as it has done for over 900 years.

Open all year round, there is something new for everyone to discover every day. With 500 acres of beautiful parkland and formal gardens, daily activities, a full calendar of events and attractions - one day will not be enough time to explore.

Falconry was a favourite pastime of Henry VIII who once owned Leeds Castle. In recognition of this, we offer a range of different falconry experiences suitable for all ages and ideal to give as a gift!

We have a variety of birds of prey who reside on the Castle estate and our Head Falconer is a fully qualified Lantra Assessor. Spectators can also be booked on each experience for an additional cost.

If you have ever seriously considered owning your own bird of prey or you are interested in becoming a qualified Falconer yourself, our 5 Day Total Falconry Course is designed just for you!

This in depth course will teach you all aspects of the art of falconry. Learn how to feed and handle a variety of birds of prey and practice flying techniques, including lure swinging and hawking.

Learn how to make the bird’s equipment and receive a free first aid reference book and veterinary advice to ensure you have all the knowledge required to look after your own bird at home.

With this experience, you will receive continued support from our team once you have purchased your own bird. The week will include lunch each day in the 17th century Fairfax Restaurant with stunning views across the moat to the Castle.

At the end of the course, our Head Falconer Mark Brattle will help you become qualified with the Lantra Award and Assessment.

Mark says:
“This is a great opportunity for beginners who want to either learn more about falconry or venture into this field as a new career. My team and I have over 29 years’ experience working with birds of prey and we enjoy sharing our knowledge and passion with people who are keen to also learn this medieval art.

Anyone can learn falconry and we teach from age 12 to 112! At Leeds Castle, we are one of the few centres in Kent where you can become qualified in beautiful surroundings over the course of five days intensive training.

Once we have helped you through your assessment at the end of the course, we pride ourselves in our aftercare and will keep in touch with you, helping you purchase and care for your first bird.”
